I’ll have artwork hanging at Seattle Recreative. The show will hang May 1-31, with an opening reception on Friday, May 10 from 6-9 pm. The reception will be held in conjunction with PhinneyWood ArtWalk: The BIG One, with refreshments and the opportunity to visit local businesses in the Phinney/Greenwood area!
All pieces were created with recycled materials (including the batting, binding, and backing).
I created these improv minis based on the Mojo Mini series by Suzy Williams. I used scraps from a larger project for both the fronts and the backs, upcycling to create a one-of-a-kind piece! I used both traditional piecing and raw edge applique in this series. The free motion quilting was also improv, and I quilted as I went along, often tracing and retracing a line several times.
The pieces are all ready to be hung with a hidden dowel, tucked into a pocket on the back.
A tribute to “Pig in a Pen” by Minnie Sue Coleman (1970)
I sketched out a basic design using colors from Minnie’s original piece and then I improv pieced the top using mostly scrap pieces. The quilting is a radiating square and was completed with a walking foot.
